Through an innovative use
of hydrogel technology, Maurten has discovered
a more effective way to fuel the body, by encapsulating the carbohydrates. Two key components are natural alginate,
extracted from seaweed, and pectin,
a dietary fibre that you find in fruit. These two components are used to create
a protective hydrogel structure with the ability
to carry salt and carbohydrates all the way down to the intestine. In the intestine, the hydrogel dissolves and the body can absorb
the carbohydrates. With the use of hydrogel technology, Maurten have been able
to increase the amount of carbohydrates, reduce the risk
of gastrointestinal problems that often arise
when consuming traditional sports fuels, remove all unnecessary ingredients
that doesn’t aid your performance, like colourants, preservatives
and artificial flavours.
